STUCK IN A RUT?

My how time flies! It is the end of January already and as a trainer, I am in the gym most of the day. We as fitness professionals tend to joke that the "New Years Resolutioners" will be gone by March, however it seems that the numbers in the gym really begin to decline around the end of January. Why? Probably because everyone starts off gung ho, ready to shed the 10 pounds they gained during the holidays and literally kill themselves on some type of starvation diet and a million hours in the gym.

Motivation

I can’t seem to get motivated! OR Why can’t I just do what I know I should do? Is this you? I have a secret for you: Motivation does not exist without first taking action with no guarantee of succeeding. Only when you have taken consistent action and begin to see some type of result, will you be motivated! Motivation is a byproduct of discipline. It is like going to school in order to get a degree, you don’t get the degree THEN go to school do you? Replace the word “motivation” for DISCIPLINE.

Where do I start?

Are you just getting started for the first time or you just haven't worked out of followed a good nutrition plan for quite some time and you are all Gung-Ho to start your New Year's Resolutions but you have no idea where to even begin? As as I mentioned before in the last blog entry, you must start small. Now, I don't mean for you to set small goals. On the contrary, set BIG goals, BUT know that you also need some smaller steps in order to get the the ultimate goal. Welp! Its that time of year again! Whether you are planning on eating and drinking all the way to January 1 or you are starting a few days early on your 2012 resolutions, here are a few tips for you to SUCCEED this year:

1. Set small goals - You did not get where you are overnight, so you aren't going to get OUT overnight. Make sure you set goals that are fairly easily attainable so that you gain momentum from the start.

Start your “New Year’s Resolution” early!

We all know that most folks gain an average of between 5 and 15 pounds of fat from Halloween to New Years, only to start their “Resolutions” yet again in January. Most “weight loss resolutioners” stop their mad pursuit of fat reduction by February or March at the latest from sheer exhaustion because they started off so gung ho that they could not keep their own pace! Now, this is not at all to discourage you or any goals that you may have. These facts are to MOTIVATE you to start now and make more manageable goals so that you not only can achieve them , but maintain them as well!
