With the holiday season coming up, you’ll probably head out to a company party, a friend’s Christmas party, or you may even throw your own event. That probably means carb-heavy snacks, sugary desserts, and calorie-filled beverages. This may sound like a blast, but when you’re trying to lose weight, or at least avoid gaining additional weight, these temptations are the last thing you want to see. So during this busy holiday season, how can we find time to fit in a quick workout? Learn some great tips from the experts at our fitness center in Fleming Island.
There are only so many hours in a day, and if your to-do list is getting long, the best way to get an extra hour is to try waking up earlier. An early morning workout means that you can cross that item off of your list and get on with the rest of the day. The important part is still to give your body the rest and fuel it needs. Right after you wake up, eat a light snack that will fuel you until breakfast time.
If you work in the Fleming Island area, our fitness center is just around the corner so you can sneak in a quick workout during your lunch break. To maximize your time, plan a lunch that can be eaten at your desk. Be sure to also pack a few snacks to nibble on throughout the day if you get hungry.
Our minds need a break a couple of times during the day. Instead of working through your 15-minute breaks, consider getting up and moving around. Walk up and down the stairs a few times, do some yoga stretches at your desk, or sit on a stability ball for core strength — there are plenty of things you can do right at work to ensure your muscles are constantly being strengthened.
If you have young kids, get them involved in the fun, too! If your kids are young enough to be pushed in a stroller, consider purchasing one that can you can jog with. And if jogging isn’t your ideal workout, find a carrier that can be worn when you do squats or lunges. The good news about our fitness center, is that we offer a Kid’s Club, so you can bring the kids to the gym with you.
Multitask at Home
We all need some “me time” to veg out and watch some TV at home. But instead of sitting on the couch with your favorite snack, put on your workout clothes and work up a sweat at the same time. Watching TV is the perfect time to get in some jumping jacks, push-ups, squats, or crunches. To make this easier, try putting some dumbbells or your jump rope in a place in your living room. Now there’s no excuse not to workout.
Workout in Line
When you’re in the grocery line or even in line getting lunch at your favorite to-go restaurant, don’t just stand there — work out! The time we spend waiting in line quickly adds up and this can be put to good use. You can perform lunges, toe raises, or squats while you wait. Yes, people might look at you funny, but when you start to see a firmer butt, who cares?
The personal trainers at our fitness center understand that you have busy lives and never-ending to-do lists. But the health of your body is just too important to put off. The key to keeping in shape is maximizing the time throughout the day to sneak in a workout, whether it’s at our desk, in the living room, or on the treadmill.
